At the end of the year the wine industry will record an increase of 9%, with a turnover of about 11 billion euros, maintaining the second place in the global ranking of the major exporting countries“.

According to Cia-Agricoltori Italiani and Unione Italiana Vini, the forecasts for the wine market are not bad at all for 2021. It is estimated that by the end of the year, the Italian wine industry will see an increase of 9%, for a total value of 11 billion euros. These numbers, although encouraging, highlight how the return to pre-Covid levels (13 billion euros) is still a long way off. “According to the associations, we must wait for the stable recovery of catering and tourism, as well as world trade and in the meantime focus on new channels, markets and trends and therefore betting on e-commerce, which has already registered a 120% increase in the first 6 months of 2021 and on the rose wine boom“.

In the year of the pandemic there was a boom in e-commerce: +75% of company sites and portals dedicated to wine. In time of lockdown 52% of the population bought wine online for the first time and it is believed that at least 40% of this percentage will continue with online purchases of wine and other alcoholic beverages.

Sparkling wines and in particular Prosecco will drive the recovery in exports: these represent about a quarter of wine exports for a value of about 2 billion, of which 70% is attributable to Doc Prosecco. “A constantly growing trend, so much so that it is estimated by 2024 over 30% more than the current national production of 750 million bottles. This alongside the exploit of rosé wines, which totaled 120 million bottles in 2020 alone for a value of 450 million, with a driving effect of the new Prosecco Rosé of over 10%“.
