According to UIV-ISMEA data for the first quarter of 2021, Italian wine exports are growing again.

“Despite the pandemic and the logistical and transport difficulties that have afflicted international trade for some time, Italy is achieving an encouraging result on the wine front“.
The data processed by Unione Italiana Vini and Ismea show how exports are returning to grow, even if the cumulative balance in the first quarter of 2021 is negative by 4% in value and 8.2% in volume. If you look at the data for individual months, however, you can see how the curve is clearly improving: in terms of volume, it went from -19% in January to -11% in February to reach zero balance in March, with sparkling and still bottled wines in positive wake of + 7%. “On the value, an even better trend, with the total wine that in the single month of March reaches + 12% after passing from -21% in January to -5% in February. Sparkling wines that from -16% at the beginning of the year reach + 3% and still-sparkling bottled wines that rise from -23% to + 16%“.
These trends are also found consistently in the main export markets, such as the United States for example. Here the sparkling wine segment is recording a really positive trend, just think that Prosecco alone saw a + 11% in volume. “Still and sparkling bottled wines, while closing the quarterly aggregate (-7%) in the red, recorded an encouraging growth, both in volume and in value. From -44% in January (which can also be explained by the strong demand from US importers a year ago for fears of Italy’s possible inclusion in the tariff carousel) to + 21% in March”.
