ITALIAN WINE LEADER BY VOLUME FOR EXPORT AGAIN

The article in the Corriere Vinicolo talks about the great performances of Italian wine in 2020 in terms of exports.

According to the Ismea and UIV surveys, the tricolor wine does better than forecasts and EU competitors. They hold volumes, values and price”.

Italy closed 2020 with a good result for exports: it managed to reduce losses in value to -2.3%, for a consideration of 6.285 billion euros. Indeed, Italy has had better performances than its main competitors (France and Spain). “These data allow Italy to regain the world leadership in volume exports with over 20.8 million hectoliters (-2.4%) to the detriment of Spain“.

Italian wine exports recorded increases in Germany, Switzerland, Canada, the Netherlands and Sweden. In the United States, Italy, spared from duties, managed to contain losses (-5.6%, to 1.45 billion euros, with Lambrusco at + 19%). Exports fell significantly in England (-6.4%), Japan (-15.5%) and China (-26.5%).

Among the regions, Veneto is confirmed as the leader in exports with 2.2 billion euros (-3.3% in value), followed by Piedmont (+ 2.6%) which extends over Tuscany (-3.2%). Positive signs for Trentino-Alto Adige and Emilia-Romagna, followed by Lombardy, down in double figures”.
