In this first half of 2021, Italian wineries are achieving excellent results, even better than in 2019.
“Italian wine raises its head and in the first half of 2021 it not only recovers the lost ground, but in many cases does even better than 2019, as emerges from the data of the top companies in the Belpaese, which represents a good 30% of the tour Italian wine business“.
In the first half of the year Italian wineries witnessed an exceptional recovery in the market and in wine consumption. Companies in the sector, some more or less, recorded a growth of +35% over the first months of 2020; by the end of the year, however, a slight decrease in purchases is expected compared to the first months, when there was a rush for supplies.
“If the greatest exploits, in 2020, come from those who have their main channel in the horeca, even the companies that, overseeing mass market and retailers, have been able to respond positively to the difficulties of last year do not stop growing“.
If we compare the numbers of 2019, we note that the Italian wineries have registered positive trends, with an average of +8%; some even saw a +20%. All this was possible thanks to the recovery of tourism and catering, and from exports, which have never seen any signs of stopping. “As for the Italian wine exports in the first quarter of 2021, the turnover exceeded 2 billion euros, up 4.2% on 2020, but above all by +5.8% on 2019 (6, 4 billion euros in total)”.
Exports, however, did not register positive trends in all target markets, some are now slightly recovering but still far from the levels of 2020. The markets that have and are recording really positive trends are: Germany with a +4,1% in value, Switzerland with +23% and France with +11%. “The greatest percentage growth, however, is recorded in China with a jump of +73%, and Russia seems to be racing again, at +34% for 37 million euros“.
