In the last five years the wines, traded in Piedmont, have registered an increase of 653%.

“The Region’s share of value rose from 11.4% in 2015 to 43.4% at the beginning of the year in total Italian trade. The number of wines traded reached a record high of 708 in 2020, an increase of 653% in five years, while the number of trades increased by 181% over 2019 – a record-breaking previous year”.
The protagonist wine of this phenomenon is Barolo which made up 73% of the Piedmontese market, followed by Barbaresco. These fine wines have seen a significant increase in their prices in recent years, from 200% to 400%; all this, thanks to the small quantities produced and the global demand.
“The critically acclaimed 2016 vintage made up 39% of Barolo’s commercial share since the beginning of 2020. The 2017 vintage will probably give a further boost to the Barolo trade”.
