PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FOR ST. MICHAEL EPPAN

The well-known Alto Tesina winery has received an excellent award for one of its wines.

Bibenda 2022, la guida ai migliori vini, has awarded one of the wines from the St. Michael Eppan winery: 5 grappoli for the Wine Collection Sauvignon 2018.

The Wine Collection Sauvignon from San Michele Appiano is a wine that embodies the winery’s highest quality interpretation of Sauvignon. This is a bottle that expresses itself with a personality on the nose and in the mouth that is rarely found, playing on a multifaceted bouquet and a structured but always elegant sip.

This wine is made from vines that are between 25 and 35 years old, grown on mainly gravelly and calcareous soil in the Appiano Monte district. The grapes are macerated for 3 days and then gently pressed. The must obtained ferments in stainless steel containers. The final ageing takes place in three stages: 12 months in oak tonneaux, 12 months in stainless steel and finally, after bottling and before release, a further 10 months spent maturing directly in glass.

Sauvignon “The Wine Collection” has a decidedly straw-yellow colour, with slight greenish reflections. Generous and concentrated on the nose, with layered notes ranging from exotic fruits to aromatic herbs, from sweet spices to mineral and toasted undertones. In the mouth it is fascinating, rich in structure but always soft and enveloping on the palate thanks to a juicy mouthfeel, in which freshness and minerality trace an elegant line on the palate. It closes with a finish of excellent persistence, marked by a slightly smoky aftertaste.
