SMALL POSITIVE SIGNALS: GROWTH OF THE ITALIAN WINE PRODUCTION

According to the data relating to bottling and State bands, the production of Italian wine is growing.

Despite the many difficulties that remain, especially in Europe, some positive signs, at least for some of the most important wine territories, seem to arrive”.

Some Italian regions, in fact, have recorded good results regarding the production of wine in these first months of 2021; numbers that could suggest a restart of the entire sector in the coming months. In Veneto the wines of Valpolicella are all registering positive signs in terms of bottling: + 10% for Valpolicella, + 12% for Ripasso and + 26% for Amarone and Recioto. “The Prosecco Doc locomotive, for example, continues to run: in the first 3 months of 2021 121.4 million bottles were bottled, 7.4% more than in 2020“.

In Piedmont, however, the straps for Barolo bottles grow by 13% and by + 1% for Barbaresco, while the situation in Monferrato is more varied: if the bottling of Barbera d’Asti falls by -6%, for example , those of Piedmont Barbera grow by 13%”.

Positive trend also in Tuscany where the Chianti classico recorded a + 22% in bottles sold and Brunello di Montalcino a + 37% for state bands delivered.

In the South, Doc Sicilia holds up well, where bottling, in the first 3 months of 2021, reached 25 million bottles, up 1% over the same period in 2020“.
